State of the art components
The bodies or ‘chassis’ are CNC machine-formed
from 16-gauge aluminum, and then chromed or powder-coated.
All front bezels are anodized or powder-coated aluminum,
and are capped with scratch and high impact resistant 1/4”
Lexan faceplates. The fit and finish of each unit is outstanding.
The LCD monitor is protected by the full-length Lexan cover
and the micro-thin keypad is flush-mounted in the Lexan.
A custom transparency of the location (host) covers much
of the front fascia, and is backlit with 3 bright energy
efficient fluorescent bulbs. Each Station is connected on-line
via cable or ADSL data line, which is supplied by the location
or host. A single 120-volt AC wall connection is all that’s
required for power.
The unique look of the kiosk is in part contributed to by
the manner in which the membrane keyboard is inlayed overtop
of the Lexan face cover. This 30-thousandths thick micro-sandwiched
keyboard is routered into the Lexan from the surface, thereby
allowing a totally flush and seamless direct contact pad
for the user, while allowing visual continuity with the
underlying veneer covered faceplate housing the user controls
underneath.
The main enabling design feature is the manner in which
the hinged front facing (held in place by the frame retainer)
swivels open to allow quick and easy access to the backlight
poster for swapping out for another poster to completely
change the location graphics.
